Staying in Andamans paradise

From Kolkata we took a flight to Port Blair.     Upon arrival, a pleasant surprise: the taxi of the hotel was waiting for us! And drove us straight to a restaurant to have some good grilled fish before boarding the boat.           We then let the staff drive us to the jetty, then to the boat, then to the hotel and then we went...

Meeting Durga in Kolkata

On the way to paradise, I decided to do a stop-over in hell, so that I would savour the peace more!                 And for hell ... I named Calcutta!       I did try though... I went there on business trips 3-4 times and each time I did not this city. I find it very noisy and cramped....

Vatican in India

Did you know it? The Vatican has an embassy (called Embassy of Holy See) and a church in Delhi! I met a long time ago a woman from Goa (Christian) who was singing in the choir so I thought it would be nice to see what it looked like.   The church is quite small and completely modern – I didn’t find it really charming, except for the gardens maybe. But I like the singing!! Kinda...

Horseback riding in the heart of Delhi

A friend of mine told me that I should try and do everything I could in Delhi like if I was going to leave tomorrow. And she asked what would I do? I told her nothing… She thought I was showing attitude but well, making a life in Delhi was not really about visiting all the monuments there are… And I’ve seen a lot of them anyway.   However there was something pending on my “list”...

The LIT lady gang of Friday nights

It took me a long time to find friends in Delhi… There are a lot more foreigners in Delhi than Mumbai but one party with French people where I must have been tired or something, and I was done with them!   I had kind of become friend with my broker. But one day she invited me for dinner with her 2 kids and she somehow scolded us all for not thanking her for cooking. It is not...

Live from paradise!

If you are looking for me I am here (put the sound!): Barefoot resort, Havelock Island, Andamans Islands, India   To my question: “Is there mobile network on the island?” the resort guy answered “Do note that network is very poor and most of the time is not working.” To which I commented… “Perfect!”   So here I am, somewhere on an island, good weather not guaranteed...

Tir(ing) stories

For those who follow, I have been driving since June. I have become expert in overtaking these bloody cycle-rickshaws but I still get a shock when the car in front of me suddenly pulls out and I find myself face to face with a cow, or a zebu, quite numerous in my industrial area. My car is my freedom. I love it. I love driving. But more than that, it was quite necessary in such...

My favorite quotes on India!

“India is like hotel California, you can check out anytime you want but you can never leave.” Holy Cow! An Indian adventure , Sarah MaccDonald “India is rather like a wave – resist it and you will be knocked over, but throw yourself in and you will come out the other side.” The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel “Do you think anything could prepare you to India? It is...

Movie - I watched (and loved) The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

I watched (and loved) The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel! Later on I checked a few critics online and noticed that not everyone liked the movie. Beyond the story – retired Britishers who can’t afford to stay in the UK and arrive in a hotel under construction in Rajasthan – I found that it depicted India quite accurately (at least one of the faces of India) and without clichés!...
