<p style="text-align: justify;"> <em>L'arène</em>, 29,7 x 21 cm, acrylique, encre et marqueurs divers, <strong>2007</strong>.</p><p style="text-align: justify;"> Voici une composition peu commune en ce qui me concerne. La couleur de fond est la couleur du papier Canson auquel j'ai eu recours par hasard. Ce rouge me parut sans doute suffisamment expressif pour ne pas me pousser à remplir outre mesure la composition de beaucoup de détails. D'ailleurs, ce dessin fut fait inopinément. La feuille avait servi, si je me rappelle bien, de protection pour ma table, car interposée entre une autre peinture plus petite et la surface de la table. Après avoir peint la plus petite feuille, je trouvai une trace de peinture sur la feuille rouge. C'est ce qui ici se voit telle une sorte de clôture de couleur tantôt brune, tantôt bleue. Cette clôture figure aussi une arène, selon mon interprétation. D'où l'arrivée des échelles, de cordages, de fils et de divers personnages ressemblant à des équilibristes, des acrobates ou des clowns. Le cercle du cirque m'est toujours apparu comme un tableau où les événements et les êtres qui s'y produisent sont analogues aux surgissements de figures, d'objets, de motifs décoratifs, d'ornements combinés dans diverses sortes d'arrangements, figuratifs, oniriques ou abstraits (je l'ai déjà évoqué dans ma note du 28 mars 2016 sur un autre dessin).</p>
