Google et Microsoft saffrontent coup de blogs et dannonces, mais les choses ne changent pas vraiment et Mountain View continue sa dgringolade mdiatique.

Pour mmoire, David Drummond, responsable juridique chez Google, a publi un billet sur Google blog expliquant que Microsoft, Oracle et Apple se liguaient contre Android, ce qui lui a valu une rponse des responsables juridiques de Microsoft qui ont montr que la firme avait refus de sassocier Redmond lors de lacquisition des brevets Novell. M. Drummond a nanmoins dcid de rpondre Microsoft en soulevant un argument relativement confus. Selon le vice-prsident, lobjectif de Microsoft tait dcarter Google et les fabricants de terminaux Android des brevets qui auraient pu tre utiliss pour se dfendre contre leurs (Microsoft, NDLR) attaques. Une acquisition conjointe des brevets de Novell qui aurait donn une licence toutes les parties (de la transaction, NDLR) aurait limin toute la protection que ces brevets offraient Android contre les attaques de Microsoft et ses partenaires lenchre .

Avant de passer la rponse de Microsoft ce sujet, nous tenons tout dabord montrer que ce discours trahit les relles intentions de Google. La firme ne renie pas le fait quelle ait t invite par Redmond une acquisition commune. Au contraire, elle affirme quelle ne voulait pas dune acquisition partage des brevets. En dautres termes, elle dit quelle voulait les brevets de Novell pour elle toute seule, ce qui est pour le moins surprenant.

Latin American films scoop prizes at Romanian festival

Two Latin American movies scooped the biggest prizes of the Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF) which ended Saturday in the northwestern Romanian city of Cluj.

"Sin Retorno" (No Return), by Argentine filmmaker Miguel Cohan, won the Transylvania award as well as the best screenplay prize, while "La Vida Util" (A Useful Life), by Uruguayan Federico Veiroj, picked up the jury's special prize.

British actress Jaqueline Bisset, who handed the prize to Cohan, was in her turn honoured for her contribution to world cinematography.

Michael York, who won a lifetime achievement award, was unable to attend for health reasons but sent a videotaped message from Los Angeles to thank the jury.

The audience gave a standing ovation to Romanian filmmaker Lucian Pintilie, author among others of "Reconstituirea" (The Reenactment) and "Balanta" (The Oak), who was awarded the prize for excellence.

The 10th edition of the festival, one of the most important in the Balkans, screened some 220 movies, including 3D productions by German Wim Wenders and Werner Herzog.

Oregon friends mark imprisoned hiker's birthday

Dozens of friends and colleagues of Josh Fattal gathered Saturday in Oregon to celebrate his 29th birthday — and mark his second one in prison in Iran.

He is one of two young American hikers the Iranian government has been holding since July 2009 on espionage charges.

Before he went hiking near the Iraq-Iran border, Josh Fattal worked three years on sustainable farming practices at the Aprovecho Research Center in Cottage Grove, south of Eugene.

"We had a very moving celebration and ceremony," his brother Alex Fattal told The Associated Press.

He said about 40 friends and colleagues gathered in Cottage Grove, at one point exchanging gifts that had relevance to his brother.

The other hiker is Shane Bauer. On May 11, they were due in court, an appearance that was canceled without explanation. Last year, Bauer's fiancee, Sarah Shourd, was released.

The group also sent tiny "prayer boats" with candles floating on the Row River, where Josh Fattal used to swim. Alex Fattal said the boats symbolized the group's desire for their freedom.

"He made a lot of friends and became a very important member of the community in a pretty short time," Tegra Fisk, organizer of the celebration, told the Eugene Register-Guard earlier. "This is really meant to be a celebration of his life, which was and is a really extraordinary life."

Alex Fattal has been rallying support for the hikers, including a fast among family members and friends.

"What Josh was doing at Aprovecho was really on the forefront of sustainable living, and he needs to get back to doing that work," Alex Fattal said. "Shane has been doing outstanding independent reporting, which we really need."

Alex Fattal said he's put his doctoral dissertation in anthropology at Harvard on hold to work on freeing the hikers, and he's given up asking himself about the motives of Iran's leaders, knowing he may never get an answer.

"On a certain level, we have to maintain our optimism," he said. "It's the fuel that keeps us going. On another, it's devastating to have your hopes built up only to have them dashed, time and again."

Clinton says justice served with Fazul's death

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Sunday told the loved ones of Tanzanians killed in the 1998 US embassy bombing that justice was served with the death of the plot's mastermind.

The chief US diplomat, who had earlier called the killing of Fazul Abdullah Mohammed, Africa?s most wanted man, a "significant blow" to Al- Qaeda, placed flowers at a memorial for the dead on the grounds of the new embassy here on the second leg of her Africa tour.

"I know that there are those of you here today who were serving in the embassy on that awful occasion," Clinton said solemnly to those gathered.

"Some of you lost your friends and loved ones, and all Americans grieved with you then and we have not forgotten your losses. We have not forgotten our pledge to seek justice against those who would commit such atrocities," she said.

Fazul, Al-Qaeda's presumed head in east Africa, wanted for blowing up the US embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam, died in a shootout in the Somali capital in the night of Tuesday to Wednesday.

Clinton recalled that US special forces killed Osama bin Laden in a raid in Pakistan last month before welcoming Saturday's news of the death of Fazul's death.

"I know nothing can replace those who have been taken from us by such senseless violence. But I know justice was served and I hope that that gives you some measure of comfort," Clinton said.

Fazul, 38, was gunned down at a roadblock in Mogadishu after he took a wrong turning.

He is thought to have planned the massive truck bombings at the US embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam that killed 224 people in 1998 and had a $5 million bounty on his head.

Eleven Tanzanians were killed in Dar es-Salaam and no Americans. In Nairobi, 212 people were killed in all, including 12 Americans.

Fazul's killing comes after that of Al-Qaeda's number one Osama bin Laden in May and that of another commander, the Pakistani Ilyas Kashmiri, thought to have died in a US drone stike earlier this month.

Some Nairobi bombing survivors expressed relief at Fazul's death; other said their lives had already been ruined and it would not change anything.

"To me the death of Fazul Abdullah Mohammed gives peace to my soul," Lucy Anyango Aringo, who was wounded in the attack, told the Sunday Nation newspaper.

"Although his death may be painful to someone close to him, to me it provides a closure of sorts," she said.

"The loss we suffered as a family can never be compensated, but it is a relief to hear those who planned the killings have been killed," Mercy Mwaura who lost her sister in the Nairobi bombing told AFP.

Another survivor, Ali Mwadama, felt differently.

"I will wake up tomorrow and face the same struggles I faced yesterday," Mwadama told Sunday Nation.

The Somali transitional government (TFG) confirmed their security forces had killed Fazul in a banal shootout at a roadblock "subsequent to a routine security check of a suspected vehicle."

The two passengers in the pickup truck "refused to stop, tried to escape by exchanging fire with security forces, and were shot dead," the statement said, adding one of the two was later identified as Fazul.

In addition to a South African passport Fazul was carrying evidence clearly linking him to Somali Islamist insurgents.

He "was carrying ... documents with the signature of Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys, one of the top leaders of Al-Shabab," an Al-Qaeda affiliate," the TFG said.

Fazul and the second man -- known Kenyan extremist Mohammed Dere -- were driving in a pickup truck full of medicine, laptops and mobile phones and had $40,000 in cash on them at the time of the shootout.

They appeared to have taken a wrong turn while trying to reach a Shebab position. Fazul had apparently come from Lower Juba in southern Somalia where he was heading a group of foreign fighters under the name of "Abu-Abdirahman the Canadian."

A Somali source said the South African passport found on Fazul was in the name of Daniel Robinson. The passport, issued April 13, 2009, indicated its bearer left South Africa for Tanzania on March 19 and was granted a visa there. The Tanzanian visa was the only one in the passport.

The TFG said he must have entered Somalia either by sea or overland, which would have have entailed passing through at least one other country in the region.

Fluent in several languages and using a variety of pseudonyms, Fazul was a master of disguise and moved freely round the whole region, while still keeping a low profile.

IndyCar set for Texas 2-step: 1 night, 2 races

IndyCar drivers won't have to wait long for their next race. After racing at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday night, they will take a break and then do it again.

The first dual races in major open-wheel racing in 30 years will be a Texas two-step — two shorter sprints at the high-banked, 1 1/2-mile track that already features some of the series' fastest and most exciting races.

Ryan Briscoe, the Team Penske driver who won the single race at Texas last year, has talked to four-time Indianapolis 500 winner and team consultant Rick Mears about the format. For the last dual races at Atlanta in June 1981, Mears won both.

"He absolutely loved doing the twin races," Briscoe said. "His big thing, if you had a good car in the first race, well, you're going to have a good car in the second race as well. If you start the first race and your handling is not right and someone else is a bit better, well at halftime, you can come in and make some changes. Adjust the car and do what you need to do to be fast and maybe win the second one."

Indianapolis 500 polesitter Alex Tagliani is also on the pole for the first race at Texas. The Sam Schmidt Motorsports driver averaged 215.186 mph over his four-lap qualifying run Friday.

Missing from the 30-car field is Indianapolis 500 champion Dan Wheldon, who will be in the television booth for the Versus broadcast instead of a cockpit. His one-race contract with Bryan Herta Autosport expired hours after his improbable victory at Indianapolis, which the team had planned for its only race this season while building toward running a full schedule next season.

Wheldon said he had "two opportunities" to race at Texas, though he didn't get specific about those or his possible future with Herta.

"It just didn't feel right," Wheldon said Friday. "The fact that we've created so much momentum, it would be bad to spoil that. Yeah, I would absolutely love to be in the race car, but it just seems that it's not the right opportunity to do that right now."

In another Texas-like twist, drivers will come up on stage during the hour-long break between the two 171-mile races for a blind draw that will set their starting position for the second race. Each race will pay half the points and half the bonus prizes.

"It's much appropriate for Texas I suppose. ... It's much more exhibition style because the second race isn't on qualifying," said Danica Patrick, the Texas runner-up last year. "I think that second race will be pretty interesting. I think it's good four our series, good for our sport. ... It's appropriate that the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 that we go back to some old-style rules."

There have been only 17 twin races, nine on ovals, in the history of U.S. open-wheel racing including CART and USAC. All of those twin bills were between 1967 and 1981, the last being the CART-sanctioned event Mears swept.

In 10 of those doubleheaders, the same driver won both races. Mario Andretti had two sweeps in USAC races (1967-68).

So what has Andretti said about twin races to his grandson, Marco?

"Of course that he won and stuff like that," said Marco Andretti, who starts the first race 23rd. "That's the only detail that he gave me."

The 30 cars entered at Texas make up the largest IndyCar field ever at the track and the most cars in a race outside the Indianapolis 500 since 31 cars started at Las Vegas in the 1996-97 season finale.

Crews will be able to work on their cars during the unusual halftime when drivers blindly choose their starting position for the second race. Each team will also have a spare engine to utilize for the second race. They can also use a backup car if the primary car is crashed in the first race, if they have one.

"We're going to have to be more aggressive maybe because the race is shorter, so you're going to see people trying different things to win the race," Tony Kanaan said. "I'm excited."

Kanaan qualified sixth, making KV Racing the only team with two drivers in the top six. Five different teams filled the first top five spots.

Dario Franchitti starts second for Target Chip Ganassi, followed by Team Penske's Will Power, KV Racing's Takuma Sato and Ed Carpenter of Sarah Fisher Racing.

JR Hildebrand, the Panther Racing rookie driver who crashed on the last turn while leading at Indianapolis, qualified 11th just two days after injuring his left knee while running an obstacle course during a fitness promotion for the Texas race.

"It's fine," Hildebrand said. "I'm not having any trouble getting in and out of the car, so it's not going to be an issue."

A l’issue de la première séance d’essais qualificatifs des 24 Heures du Mans mercredi soir, Peugeot a démontré sa grande forme en dominant les trois Audi pourtant largement favorites. De quoi nourrir quelques belles ambitions.

Pour remporter une victoire, il faut une bonne voiture, mais aussi un grand pilote. A l’issue des premiers essais qualificatifs sur le circuit du Bugatti au Mans, Peugeot peut être ravi de compter Stéphane Sarrazin dans ses rangs. Le Français a en effet pris la première place devant les trois Audi R18. L’écurie française dont le but est d’accrocher une place sur le podium a gagné la première bataille mais pas la guerre. Il reste encore deux séances d’essais et bien évidemment la course.

C’est pourtant l’écurie allemande qui a pris les devants au début de la séance. La n°1 de Mike Rockenfeller réalise le meilleur temps avant que son coéquipier Andre Lotterer ne rafle la mise. Un accident entre le proto de Romain Dumas et une Aston Martin empêche Audi de finir les essais. Une aubaine pour Stéphane Sarrazin, spécialiste des tours rapides, qui devance d’à peine 906 millièmes l’Audi de Marcel Fässler. Dumas est second et Tom Kristensen, troisième. Les deux autres prototypes de Peugeot se sont eux classés 5^e et 6^e. Le duel tant attendu entre les Allemands et les Français est bien lancé. Le rendez-vous est pris pour les prochaines séances d’essais prévues ce jeudi.

Chaka Khan may be a legacy artist in the industry, but that isn't to say the legendary songstress isn't as busy as ever. At the top of her list? A duets album, including a Led Zeppelin cover alongside "American Idol" judge and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler.

"We literally just clicked," Khan tells Billboard.com of Tyler. "We were at Elton John's party and we got to talk and we both wanted to sing together. We said, 'Let's do a mutual song, by you know, a neutral band -- a band that we both love,' and we both love Zeppelin."

The "I'm Every Woman" singer will record the duet of a yet-to-be-decided Zeppelin tune with Tyler soon, which she has plans to release on a forthcoming double album of duets.

And as if that superstar meeting of the musical minds wasn't enough, Khan's got some other tricks up her sleeve -- a potential collaboration with Akon and a jazz-tinged tribute concert dedicated to another superstar, the incomparable Joni Mitchell. The tribute concert finds Khan working alongside jazz icon Herbie Hancock and the Swell Season's Glen Hansard, with the Los Angeles show set for August 17 at the Hollywood Bowl.

With the duets album, the Joni tribute concert and a slew of tour dates on the horizon (including a performance as part of this month's first annual Blue Note Jazz Festival in NYC), you may ask how the Chicago-born beauty continues to do it all.

"I pretty much just live in the moment, and I always have," says the singer. "Whatever happens, you gotta go with it, and I've been really blessed with this life choice that I made, which makes me happy. Keeps me sane. It's an all-around good thing that I turned out to be a singer."

Khan will be honored for her achievements at the annual Songwriters Hall of Fame induction and awards dinner in NYC on June 16, where she will receive the Howie Richmond Hitmaker Award.

Pizza Hut is set to introduce iPad and Android apps that expand on the chains successfulto let you order pizza from anywhere. New features of the apps, which launched Thursday, include access to the full Pizza Hut menu and limited time offers, guest checkout that lets customers order without checking in and a most popular items section.In 2009, Pizza Hut released its , and the company claims to have been the first player in the pizza segment to do so. Within three months, the app had generated more than $1 million in sales.

Since then, rivals Dominos and Papa Johns have both released iPhone apps. But, once again, Pizza Hut claims to be ahead of the curve. The company says it's the first major fast food delivery chain to release an iPad app.

Tressie Lieberman, senior manager of digital marketing for Pizza Hut, envisions consumers using the app when they're watching TV at home with the device on their lap. "People like to pull out the iPad," she says. "You don't have to start up your computer." Another scenario: people who use their iPad for work launch the app around 5 p.m., when they're contemplating dinner.
